Burial was in Texline Mennonite cemetery, under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TXOfficiants were Minister Gary Schmidt & Minister Matthew Koehn of the Texline Mennonite Church. Glenda Mae Koehn Smith was born to Leo and Edna Buller Koehn on June 28, 1946 at Halstead, Kansas. She peacefully passed from this life to eternity on February 14, 2015 in Amarillo, Texas following a courageous 14 year long battle with cancer. Our devoted wife, mother, and grandmother spent her growing up years and received her education in the Burrton, Kansas community. At the age of 13, she was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Kenneth Smith on June 27, 1960. She remained faithful to these vows through life.On Sep. 19, 1965 she was joined in marriage to me, Orlie Smith. We were blessed with almost 50 years of marriage. To this union were born six boys, one of which died at infancy. After completing our term of 1W service in Tucumcari, NM, we began our early married life at Burns, Kansas. In March of 1975, we moved to Perico, Texas, spending almost a year there before moving to the Sedan, NM community where we resided until the time of death.Mom enjoyed the challenge of raising their five sons on the farm. She was a hospitable person, opening her home to many friends, family and acquaintances. Her love of the outdoors was depicted in her large gardens, beautiful flowers and yard. She was an organized person, paying attention to the many details of life, both in her own home as well as in helping with the needs of others.During her battle with cancer, she enjoyed her cancer support sisters, taking an interest in each of them personally. She especially enjoyed the outings taken with them. While she was not cured from the disease itself, the healing prayer for extended time and resignation to Gods will was gloriously answered. She graciously accepted the many trips to the doctors, the cancer treatments, and the limitations that occurred as a result of the advances of cancer, never complaining. Her spiritual life became increasingly special to her during this time. She has taught us how to gracefully pass from this life. Her courage and submission in this life was a witness to us. Only a week before her passing, she fervently admonished us to just be faithful. We had the blessed opportunity to say goodbye and promise to meet her in heaven. Those left to cherish fond memories are her husband, Orlie; five sons: Randy and wife, Glennis, Texline, TX; Steven and wife, Valeta, Surprise, AZ; Russ and wife, Becky, Dalhart, TX; Galen and wife, Chris, Paxton, NE; Les and wife Janell, Barron, WI; 22 grandchildren, mother-in-law, Dena Redger Smith, Texline, TX; four brothers: Gary and wife Carol, Texline, TX; Leroy and wife Deloris, Halstead, KS; Harold and wife Sharon, Texline, Tx; Charles and wife Gaylene, Texline, TX; 1 sister: Rita and husband Ron Jantz, Nampa, ID, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Wayne Allen, her parents, father-in-law and one sister-in-law.Memorials: Texline EMS c/o Ryan Koehn 355 Evans LN.
