Glen Edward PeeWee Hammett, 71, of Dalhart, TX died Monday, September 10, 2012 in Dalhart. Celebration of life services was held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 1000 E 16th St in Dalhart with Pastor Rodney Weatherly officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. PeeWee was born August 27, 1941 in Dalhart, TX to Toots and Sara (Darnall) Hammett. He attended school in Dalhart. He joined the U.S. Navy in January of 1960, where he served on the USS Ticonderoga for 4 years. PeeWee became employed with the Rock Island Railroad in 1964. He married Patricia Kay Dyson on July 16, 1965 in Dalhart. Through his life with the railroad the Dalhart depot changed several times, and PeeWee stayed to work for the Cottonbelt Railroad, Southern Pacific, and ultimately retired from the Union Pacific in 2006. PeeWee and Patty celebrated 45 years of marriage in July of 2010. PeeWee was a proud & loyal Dalhart Wolf fan, having bought his season tickets for the 48th year in August. He never missed a home game that he was in town to attend. PeeWee was a devoted father and a loving & attentive PaPaPeeWee was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patty Hammett in 2010. His mother and father, sister, Bonnie S Stroupe, brother, William A. Hammett, a niece, Gwen Stroupe Survivors include a son, James Douglas Doug Hammett and wife Cynthia of Amarillo; daughter, Jennifer Louise Hall and husband Brett of Dalhart; brothers, Jim Hammett of Dalhart, Ronnie Hammett and wife Norma of Dalhart; sister, Sue DeSpain and her husband Don of Southern Pines, NC; brother-in-law, Bill Stroupe of Blue Ridge, TX; sister-in-law, Shirley Hammett of Prarie Grove, AR; granddaughters, Catie Hammett of Amarillo, Hillary Dockins and her husband Chase of Amarillo, Emily Hall of Dalhart; grandsons, Steven Hammett and Ethan Hall of Dalhart; 2 great grandsons.
