Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Channing Cemetery with Steven Goebel, officiating. Arrangements by Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas.
Gerald Eugene Link was the first child born to Leslie and Bea Link on March 1, 1936 in Chester, OK. When he was six months old, the family moved to Colorado where he lived in a tent in a watermelon patch. That started his childhood of moving throughout the Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas areas, because his father was a bi-vocational Full Gospel minister. Through his familys witness, Gerald found Jesus as his Savior at a young age. As a teenager, his family moved to Amarillo, TX where he met his wife, Judy Johnson. He spent as much time with her family as he did his own. Gerald and Judy were married on February 14, 1958 and were together for over 55 years. During that time, they raised a smart and beautiful family of three daughters, nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gerald was a member of the Carpenters Local and received his 55-year service pin. He worked for Page and Associates Construction at Boys Ranch, TX from the early 1960s until his retirement in 1998, although he never retired as a carpenter. Gerald was always building and remodeling his own houses in Amarillo and Channing, as well as those of family and friends. Aunt Kay said, Everywhere I look in my home, I see my brother Gerald, so I know hell always be with me. Almost everyone he knew can say the same, because thats how he loved others. Gerald put a part of his heart in every detail of every job, and never turned down anyone who asked a favor.
Outdoor activities, including hunting, trapping, fishing, boating, and camping, were life-long hobbies shared through the generations from his grandparents to his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed nothing more than family get-togethers made complete with homemade banana-nut ice cream and card playing. The words of Geralds grandson, Wade, express what many of us feel. He is one of the most influential people in my life and the centerpiece to our family. If I can be half the man he was, I can honestly say Ill be doing alright.
Gerald is survived by his wife Judy of Amarillo,TX, his daughters: Jeanne and her husband Jim Rentfro of Channing, TX, Cheri Grant of Amarillo, TX, and Kerri and her husband Tim Bluhm of Abilene, TX.
Brothers- Ray and his wife Hazel Link of Amarillo, TX, Wayne and his wife Wilma Link of Seiling, OK. Sisters- Linda OHara of Geary, OK and Mary Lewis of Geary, OK. 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great- Grandchildren.
