Gerald Scott Burney, of Dalhart, Texas, passed from this life on February 19, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Gerald was born in Turkey, Texas, on June 21,1938. He spent the majority of his growing-up years in Levelland, Texas, where he graduated high school and then attended the University of Oklahoma. Gerald was a pilot and private instructor, and he was passionate about flying. He met his wife of 47 years, Donna, when she was earning her pilot's license. Donna and Gerald moved to Dalhart in 1977 and became devoted members of St. James' Anglican Church. Gerald served as a Lay-Reader, Vestry Board member, and fulfilled many other church responsibilities as a ministry of his faith. This same spirit was exemplified in his service as a CASA Board member, as well as on the Dalhart Airport Board for numerous years. His love for God, others, and Oklahoma Sooner football was evident to all.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jo Rudd and Bruce Burney, his sister, Beverly (Jerry) Taylor, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Temple and Charlie Hill. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his brother, Chick (Wanda) Burney; his son, Ben (Diann) Burney; and his daughters Kelli Burney and Haley (Kenneth) Brown.
