George H. Wells, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Dalhart, TX. A Celebration of Georges life was held at 2:00 on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Lakeview United Methodist Fellowship Hall with Rusty Hancock of Lincoln Street Baptist Officiating. Burial of cremains will follow later at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, IA. Arrangements provided by Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas. George went to be with his Lord after an extended struggle with multiple myeloma at the age of 82 years. George was born in Boonville, AR on Monday, November 5, 1934 to Jay C. & Zula Belle (Loftis) Wells. George was raised in a small 3 room house outside of Booneville, AR. He began his Railroad career in 1952 and while working in Iowa he met his wife, Donna Larsen. They married on July 15, 1956 in Avoca, IA and moved to Burlington, Co when he became a Communications Section Lineman. In raising their 3 children, George was very active in the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church, numerous school activities, The local golf club and the Boy Scouts of America. In 1975, BSA presented George with the William H. Spurgeon III award for outstanding service to the youth. Work brought George and Donna to Dalhart, TX in 1982. George retired from the railroad in 1996 with 44 years of service. In retirement George enjoyed Church, golf, his 5 grandchildren and their activities, woodworking and his beloved Denver Broncos.George is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Donna of Dalhart, TX., his son Danny Wells and his wife, Lesa of Colorado Springs, CO., his son Dennis Wells and his wife, Trish of Levelland, TX., his daughter, Diane Wells and her life partner, Greg Jundt of Pueblo West, CO., and his brother, James Carroll Wells of Joliet, Il. George is also survived by his granddaughters- Lindsey Hart & Bre Anna Wells, his grandsons- Nicholas, Daniel and Josh Wells; great granddaughter, Aubree Wells as well as numerous nieces and nephews, his cat- Miss Kitty and many friends that he considered family. George is preceded in death by both his parents, a sister- Nancy and his brothers- Henry, Harvey and Wayne Wells.
