Geneva June Short, 75, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, in Dalhart. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 at Lincoln Street Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas. Geneva June McCleskey was born October 6, 1933 in Floyd, NM to Marshal and Pearl (Fallen) McCleskey. Raised in Floyd, she graduated form Floyd High School in 1951. Geneva June McCleskey married Don E. Short on December 27, 1950 in Portales, NM. They lived in Portales and Lubbock before moving to Dalhart in 1968. June worked for the school system as a teacher aid and drove a school bus for many years. Survivors include her husband Don of Dalhart, TX sons: Gary Short and his wife Ozetta of Dangerfield, TX and Doug Short and his wife Stacy of Beaumont, TX - daughters: Kayla Doss of Chicago, IL, Karen Berg and her husband Gary, Kathy Swain and her husband Chuck of Indianola, IA and Kim Speer and her husband Roy of Sedan, NM. 16 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren.Preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 son.
