Garry "Burr" Rhea Chumley passed away in his home in Amarillo, Texas on Friday, July 8, 2022. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas. Marion Turner will officiate. Arrangements in the care of Horizon Funeral Home.
Garry was born in Dalhart, Texas to Alpha (Hubbard) and Harry Chumley on Monday, September 17, 1945. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1964. Garry started out ranching with the Gallo family, then worked in custom harvesting for a while with his dad. He went on to work at Coronado Feeders for over 20 years, where he started as a bunk reader, promoted to mill manager, and retired as the fat cattle salesman and commodity buyer. After retirement he kept busy running parts for Dean Graham, seeking out pottery at estate sales, and making trips to Longview to care for his Aunt Inez and Uncle Lois Cryar. He was very supportive of his nephews and nieces attending many sporting events, rodeos and sharing his vast knowledge of being able to fix just about anything. He was always ready to make a fishing trip to Vermejo Park.
Garry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dwight Loomis.
Garry is survived by his brother Dick Chumley and wife Barbara, his sister Edna Keel and husband Bill, one niece Cristie Childress, four nephews: Richard Chumley, Rhea Chumley and wife Keely, Doug Loomis and wife Gisele and Dan Loomis and wife Elena, four great nieces: Jordan Loomis, Kallie Childress, Haskell Chumley and Alex Chennault and husband Erik, one great nephew Braydan Loomis and three great great nephews
