Gail Wood Wilmer, age 84, has found peace and comfort in the hands of our Lord on October 17, 2017, in Dumas, Texas. A private graveside ceremony is planned at a later date where her ashes will be interred at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball, Texas.Born Gail Ralph Wood on May 22, 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Clark and Erna Wood, Gail attended Lynchburg High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. After high school, she attended business school, which prepared her for the future. Several years out of high school, Gail rekindled her friendship with native Lynchburg resident Reginald B. Wilmer, and they later married in 1956.Gail and Reggie moved about the country as he followed his career in the steel industry, landing them at their final address in Cypress, Texas, along with their four children. It is here that Gail and Reggie raised their children and she simultaneously built a career in the banking industry. Her career began with Intercontinental Bank in Houston, Texas. She then moved to Merchants Park Bank in Houston, Texas where she steadily climbed the corporate ladder to Senior Vice President of Lending. Gail continued her career but took less demanding positions as her children grew. She worked for First City Bank, Guaranty Bank, First Equity, and Chase/Bank One, where she retired.Gail was involved in the sports her children participated in and she enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining. The sandy beach was her home away from home! After every wedding, weekends with the family-anytime was beach time. She also thoroughly enjoyed her sons cooking for her! Her love of family was evident when all of her children and grandchildren gathered for no reason at all or for the holidays, at their Cypress home. You could see the joy in her eyes; Gail was selfless when it came to her family and grandchildren, and she made sure every gathering was just right.Gail is survived by her brother Wayne H. Wood, Sr. of Lynchburg, VA., niece Melissa Wood Sullivan and nephew Wayne Wood Jr., sons Mark Wilmer and wife Pam of Cypress, Texas, Brian Wilmer and wife Connie of Dalhart, Texas, Craig Wilmer and Bahar Abdullah of Maryville, Tennessee and daughter Lynn Hardee and husband Darroll of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren Ashley G. Lytle and husband Joel, Allison and Brittany Wilmer, Corinne and Lauren Wilmer, and Madison and Christin Hardee. She is preceded in death by her mother Erna S. Perry, father Clark Wood, her husband Reginald B. Wilmer and her grandson Justin S. Wilmer.
