Frutoso Ricardo Ortiz 89, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Dalhart, TX.Services:A Prayer Vigil was held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.Memorial service was held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Frutoso Ricardo Ortiz was born January 19, 1919 in Wagon Mound, NM to Nerio and Eloisa Vigil Ortiz. On May 12, 1945 he married Dora Abeyta in Roy, NM. Mr. Ortiz farmed and worked construction before working as a supervisor for the New Mexico Boys School. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a craftsman with leather, jewelry and even made some small and large stage coaches and covered wagons. A Veteran of WWII he was a POW in Germany for 16 months before escaping and traveling on foot for many miles to get back to his allies. Survivors include his son Richard Ortiz of Springer, NM and Daughter Beatrice Ortiz of Dalhart, TX Brothers John and George Ortiz of Dalhart, TX Dan, Max, and Arturo Ortiz of Raton, NM Tieofelo Ortiz sisters: Rafelita Lucero of Raton, NM and Helen DesChamps of Roy, NM - 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters.
