William "Frank" D. Shepherd, 89, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Channing Cemetery.
Frank was born Friday, July 17, 1931 in Gasoline, Texas to Richard and Laura (Garner) Shepherd. He graduated from Channing High School in 1949. On April 6, 1951 he was drafted into the United States Army. He spent nine months in Korea and was a combat engineer with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in mines and booby traps. After leaving the army he became a Hartley County Deputy Sheriff for 12 years. He then went on to become the Postmaster for the Channing Post office for 38 and a half years. After retiring from the postal service, he farmed and ranched until his death. In 1957 Frank married Mozelle Cannon and they had two sons, Dr. Stephen Shepherd and Garre Dale Shepherd.
Frank is preceded in death by his son Garre in December of 2014, his parents, two brothers, Red and Clyde and a sister, Jean.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mozelle Shepherd of Channing, Texas, son Dr. Stephen Shepherd of Dalhart, Texas and a daughter, Paula Elkins and husband Buddy of Grants, New Mexico, a sister, Sue Cunningham and several nieces and nephews.
