Frances J. Stipe, 92, of Dalhart, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 11 o clock in the morning on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Ron Hein officiating. Mrs. Stipe will lie in state from noon until 6 o clock in the evening on Monday at the funeral home.
Frances was born on October 27, 1928 to Nick and Mamie Toews in Littlefield, TX. She graduated from Littlefield High School and went on to attend West Texas State University from 1946-1947. Frances had a passion for singing, so much so that as a high school student during WWII she was a part of a girls quartet that sang at rallies in Littlefield and Lamb County; they did this to help raise money for War Bonds. Frances married the love of her life, Max L. Stipe, on August 19, 1947. After marriage they lived in Canyon and Hereford before settling down in Dalhart in 1978. She worked in medical records in Hereford and at Coon Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1989. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a member of the Littlefield Ex-Students Association and the Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Frances had a big heart and loved helping people. After retirement she was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. She continued her love of singing as a volunteer leader of "Singalong" at Coon Memorial Home, as a member of the choir at the Dalhart Church of the Nazarene, and by singing at weddings and funerals. Her kindheartedness has left an impression on people that will not be forgotten. Frances will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Nick and Mamie Toews; her husband: Max L. Stipe; and one brother: Weldon E. "Bud" Toews.
Frances is survived by one daughter: Nickie M. Stipe of Atlanta, Georgia.
