Forrest Milton Gumper, 82 died on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in Amarillo, TX A Memorial Service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Lakeview United Methodist Church Under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home ~ Dalhart, Texas Officiating at the service was George Chambers, pastor of the Lakeview United Methodist Church Forrest Milton Gumper was born in Stratford, Texas to Walter and Hulda (Langendoerfer) Gumper. He married Helen Garrett on January 17, 1944 in Clayton, NM. Forrest entered the armed forces in July of 1944; he served in the 36th infantry Division. He was in the European Theatre from January 1945 July 1946. In 1949 he took flying lessons and earned his pilots License. In 1950 Forrest was called back to the armed forces during the Korean conflict. He was with the 950th Aviation Engineers at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and Wolters Air Force Base, Mineral Wells, Texas his family stayed with him at both locations They returned to Dalhart in June of 1952. Forrest and Helen owned the first coin operated car wash in Dalhart and operated the Plains Garage. He was also a custom farmer and a member of the Lakeview united Methodist church. He is survived by his wife Helen Gumper of Dalhart, TX Son: Roger Phillip Gumper of Amarillo, TX Daughters: Charlca and her husband David Morris of Georgetown, TX and Melverta and her husband Brian Pahl of Liberty Hill, TX5 Grandchildren and 5 Great GrandchildrenSisters: Mildred and her husband Calvin Ballinger of Lubbock, TX Gertrude Campbell of Amarillo, TX Herma & her husband Cecil Porter of Pilot Grove, Missouri and Dorothy Walden of Eager, Arizona.
