Foster Leon Jolley died Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005 in Dalhart, Texas.Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 4, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas - burial was in Memorial Park Cemtery.Officiants at the service were Rodney Weatherly, Pastor & Clifford Dane Minister of Sr. adults - First Baptist Church.F.L. Jolley is one of a kind. He was pegged the King of the XIT Concessions. After his 60th Year of the XIT Celebration in 1996, F. L. retired.He was the 56th Annual XIT Marshal in 1992 and was again for the 60th Annual event.Foster was born June 25, 1905 in Columbus, Ohio. His family moved to Pratt, KS in 1910, where he completed his education and worked in the surrounding area for the next 16 years.He and Frieda Audrey Simpson were married on December 24, 1926 in Bucklin, KS. Foster worked for Traders Grocery Store.Three years later they moved to Dodge City, KS and he worked for Beatrice Creamery. Plains, KS was their next hometown and later to Copeland, KS where they started a business of their own. They operated a combination grocery store, produce house and restaurant.In 1931 Foster was given the opportunity to work for Swift Company. This would mean moving to Dalhart. The territory was quite large and after Foster had been in Dalhart six months, Swift asked him if he wanted the entire territory for his, and Foster accepted the offer.Jolley established Dalhart Poultry & Egg. He purchased cream, eggs and poultry and sold ice cream. He also salted down cowhides.Jolley was in the same building since 1931. (74 years) He went into the Ford Tractor business in 1939. He then renamed his business Dalhart Farmers Exchange.Jolley is a dog lover and has had Charles the first, Charles the second, George the first and second.His dogs had a special room at his residence, air conditioning and all. His dogs went with him everywhere.In the 1940's he bought a farm and remained active in that endeavor until recently.First Baptist Church became home for Foster and Frieda in the early 1940's. Foster served in various capacities of the financial are of the Church over the years. He was an usher for about 20 years retiring form that position in December 1994.The XIT Rangers Club was organized by Foster and a few of his friends.
