Evelyn Norene Brown Graff was born December 31, 1929 in Antelope County, Nebraska to Alfred and Ruth (Berry) Brown. The oldest of three daughters, Evelyn was a farm girl at heart.
Evelyn attended Tilden Highschool for 3 years, riding her bicycle 31/2 miles, even in the winter months. Her senior year she attended and graduated from Meadow Grove Highschool, where she made lifelong friends. After graduating Meadow Grove Evelyn took a job at Mutual of Omaha, in Omaha, Nebraska, riding the train home on the weekends. In the summer of 1949 she stopped at her cousins near Bancroft, who took her into town to the summer festival and introduced her to their handsome neighbor, Curtis Graff.
Evelyn and Curtis were united in marriage on December 2, 1949 at their family home near Tilden, by Curtis brother, Rev. Orin Graff. Born to this union were six children.
Evelyn was always active on the farm and yet made time to teach Sunday school, lead 4-H, enjoy the neighbor ladies, and read her children Bible stories at bedtime.
In 1979 Curt and Evelyn made the decision to start a new adventure and moved to Dalhart, Texas where they continued to farm. Always a helpmate Evelyn helped Curt run yearlings during the summer months at Medicine Bow, Wyoming, Lusk, Wyoming and Hugo, Colorado. She always enjoyed visitors at the ranch, and always had an extra plate ready for the table. Not to mention the extra meals made daily for hired help, gpa Graff and the nephews who would come help during the summer.
Evelyn enjoyed her years working at Alco and sewing each of her grandchildren a quilt. In later years Evelyn was surrounded by the best of friends several times a week, with a domino game to keep her mind sharp.
Evelyn was dedicated to Bible study and strong in her belief in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. She especially loved the fellowship, friendship and learning that happened around the table at adult Sunday school class.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Charles Graff of Ogalalla, NE, Dixie Fischer of Lincoln, NE, Jean and Pat Schlickbernd of West Point, NE, Bill and Karen Graff of Dalhart, TX, Kari and Greg Goebel of Fort Worth, TX, sister, Ann Butterfield, 18 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and wonderful friends.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her infant son Jay, her parents, husband Curtis in 2015, and daughter in law Nancy Graff.
