Eulene grew up in Dalhart until the family moved to Farmington, NM when she was in the 8th grade and graduated from high school there. On December 27, 1958, she married Rufus Phelps and they then moved to Dalhart in 1966 where they were members of the First Baptist Church in Dalhart and active members of their Sunday school class. Eulene was a tireless worker at the Dalhart Texan newspaper where she worked for 36 years. She loved to read and her dream was to be a writer so it is little wonder that she worked at the paper office. At her retirement party in 2010, co-workers and friends remembered her as a dependable employee that came to work day after day, month after month and year after year. She always greeted customers with a smiling face and made a difference in the lives of those she touched. Her outlook was to always look at the brighter side of lifes situations. Eulene was also known as a great care giver to friends and family by providing transportation to the doctors office, or fixing those wonderful meals while they were sick. Her family will always reflect on the tireless and selfless attitude that she carried. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends as well. Eulene also enjoyed playing games, especially checkers and dominoes and truly thought that she would one day win the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
