Emma Sofia Salazar, 90 died on Thursday, July 26, 2007 in Amarillo, TexasVigil was held on Sunday, July29, 2007 at 7:00 pm in St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Mass was held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 30, 2007 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Dalhart, TX. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, TX.Officiating at the Vigil was Deacon Ron Hein and at the Mass was Fr. Juan Antonio Albaladejo, Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas, Texas.Survivors include her Children: Sons: Sammie Salazar of Dalhart, Texas, Louis Salazar of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Albert E. Salazar of Dalhart, Texas Daughters: Carolina Herrera of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Josie Aragon of Amarillo, Texas, Regina Maldonado of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joan Islas of Irving, Texas, Catherine Zuniga of Amarillo, Texas and Mary Eulalee Salazar of Amarillo, Texas - 21 Grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildrenPreceded in death by 4 children Juanita Salazar, David Archie Salazar, Archie Salazar and Gloria Harkins - Emma Sofia Marquez was born on April 10, 1917 in Des Moines, New Mexico to Jose S. and Eulalia (Lucero)Marquez. Emma attended school in Des Moines and on August 11, 1934 she married Luis Archie Salazar in Clayton, New Mexico they moved to Dalhart in 1966 and Mr. Salazar died in 1982. Emma was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Mrs. Salazars teenage years were spent during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl Days She was a pioneer at heart and had an unconditional love for family and friends.
