Elnora Julch Carruth, 101, died Sunday, August 09, 2015 in Dalhart, TXFuneral Services were held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Dalhart Church of Christ. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery - Horizon Funeral Home. Elnora Leigh Julch, 101, was born and grew up on the Julch family farm N.W. of Tulia, Texas. Born March 16, 1914, she was the middle of 5 daughters born to Adam C. and Annie (Vaughn) Julch. Elnora graduated from Tulia High School and then went to West Texas State. She withdrew from the college for one year and taught in a rural school in Castro County known as Jumbo. Then, after being granted her degree in primary education, she taught a semester at Muleshoe. Best friends for life, Elnora and Feral W. Carruth were married August 21, 1939 in Happy, Texas. In 1943 they bought a farm north of Tulia. On this farm, their home for 19 years, they planted a fruit orchard and raised cattle, sorghum, alfalfa, and wheat. Two daughters, Norma and Gail, were born and grew up there. The Carruths interest turned to Dallam County in 1957 when they purchased a ranch east of Texline. In 1962, they sold the irrigation farm in Swisher County and bought a farm 11 miles southeast of Texline. In 1969 they moved from Dalhart to their farm at Perico and lived there until their return to Dalhart in 1994 after their retirement. They were both devout Christians and active, faithful members of the church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Elnora took pride in raising their 2 daughters and caring for her family. She had a very active role in their farm which always included a very large vegetable and flower garden along with working cattle and driving tractors and trucks. They worked hard together and enjoyed watching their family, crops and cattle grow. They enjoyed living a modest life so that they could create a legacy that included multiple mission fields. Elnora learned to cook as a young girl and was Dalhart Texan Cook of the Week. When living in Tulia, she was a member of the Swisher County Home Demonstration Club and Kaffir H-D Club. She served as a Study Helper for students taking the New Life Behavior Class for T.D.C.J. and World Bible . In her 101 years she rode a horse with other children to their one-room school and plowed with 2 mules and drove modern farm machinery. The family car was a model T. She survived World War I and II, the Great Depression, and the Dust Bowl. Elnora is survived by her daughter and husband, Gail & Dwight Gray of Dalhart and son-in-law Jim & Marina Noyes of Kiev, Ukraine. Left with great memories of their Grandmother are Al Noyes of Oklahoma City, OK., Annahleise & Nate Eldred of York, NE, Micah & Scharlee Gray of Blanchard, OK, Joshua & Jennifer Gray of Lincoln, NE. Also left to cherish her memory are 8 great-grandchildren Jorre and Aislinn Luther, Riley and Avery Gray, Jude and Gideon Gray, Lincoln and Sophia Eldred, cousin Mickey Ford, and many beloved nieces and nephews, missionaries and friends. Elnora is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years Feral W. Carruth, her daughter Norma Noyes, her parents Adam & Annie Julch, 4 sisters and their husbands: Annabel & Tol Collins, Marie & M.M. Nance, Olene & Harold Wright, Juanita & Cecil Shearer. Elnora is the last of her generation of the Julch family. Those who preceded in death of the Carruth family included Ferals 3 brothers: Otis & Lucille Carruth, Clyde & Virginia Carruth, and Glenn & Lela Carruth and his 2 sisters: Inez & Jack Nickel and Cleta & Royal Crawford and their parents William Joshua & Julia Elizabeth (Davis) Carruth In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home in Portales, N.M. or Westview Boys Home at Hollis, O.K.
