Edythe Evelyn Dixon, 96 of Dalhart Texas, died Friday, June 2, 2006. Funeral services were Monday, June 5, 2006 at Central United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Officiants were Jerry Moore, Everett Statler, and Paul Hill. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by husband Earl Jefferson Dixon, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Evelyn Johnson and husband Stewart of Dalhart, three grandchildren Yvonne Artho and husband Louis of Dalhart, Valerie Ridenour and husband Richard of Farmington New Mexico, and Cecil Earl Johnson of Dalhart. Eight great grandchildren Jeff, Gary, Keith, Sarah, Ben, and Rebecca children of Yvonne Artho, Abby and Seth children of Valerie Ridenour. She is also survived by sister-in-law Ollie Rogers and four nephews Lynn Hill of Dalhart, Billy Rogers, Garland Rogers, and Robert Rogers all of Canadian Texas.Edythe Evelyn Rogers, born August 3, 1909, in Ellis County Oklahoma near Shattuck OK. She was the fifth child of Newton H. and Mabel (Barnes) Rogers. The family moved to Lipscomb County, Texas in 1915. She had all of her schooling in Lipscomb.Edythe married Earl Jefferson Dixon in 1935. They moved to Dallam County in May 1937 where they farmed and lived twenty two miles west of Dalhart on south sedan route in the Bunkerhill community. They moved to town in 1968 where she resided till just prior to her stay at the Coon Home in January 2006.Edythe was a charter member of Bunkerhill home demonstration club, in which she was Woman of the Year in 1977. Other organizations included, Womens Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Womens Literary Club, Home and Garden club, board member of the Fifty Five Plus club, Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, Coon Memorial Home, Interstate Fair Board, 4H Club, and Dalhart Senior Citizen Center.She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Martha circle. Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund or a favorite charity.
