Graveside services were held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in Memorial Park Cemetery.Edna Martha Wilson Mitchell, age 92, of Dalhart, Texas passed away Saturday, September 18th, 2010 in Enid, Oklahoma. Edna was born December 13, 1917 to James E. and Ida Wilson in Dalhart. She was accepted into the College of Nursing in Colorado Springs, Colorado after graduating from Dalhart High School. She married James E. Mitchell July 9th, 1939. From this union three daughters were born, Dorothy, Evelyn and Helen.Edna was an active member of the community participating in the First Christian Church, Meals on Wheels, board member of Head Start, XIT Museum (which was dear to her heart as her family was rich in history) , Pink Lady at the Dalhart Hospital and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as well as an avid bridge player.Edna moved to Oklahoma in 2000 to be closer to her daughters but dearly loved her return visits to Dalhart to see her many friends.Edna is preceded in death by her husband and daughter Evelyn Hogue.She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Smithson of Enid, daughter Helen Benefiel and her husband Tom of Norman, son-in-law Herb Hogue of Amarillo. Grandchildren Shari Whittier and husband Mike, John Smithson and wife Jenny, Julie Ellis and husband Allen, Bryan Benefiel and wife Stacey, Jason Benefiel and wife Cassie as well as 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
