Dwight "Butch" Stovall - Butch passed away on April the 12, 2024 at the age of 82 in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born on November 18, 1941 in Dalhart to JC and Luretta (Newman) Stovall.
He married Mary Ann Scruggs on September 26, 1964 in Clayton, NM. They raised two daughters Tamra and Keitha in Dalhart. Butch and Mary Ann would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in September.
Butch was the oldest of six children and from an early age Butch spent his summers helping his grandfather, OD Newman on his farm in Dalhart. He attended several schools but graduated from Tascosa High in Amarillo in 1960. After graduation he worked with his brother in-law, JW McClellan doing carpentry in Denver, CO. Butch served in the National Guard from 1963 until 1969 while working on the farm with his grandfather. After that he farmed until he went to work at Dalhart Consumers where he retired.
Butch loved to square dance in his younger years as well as fishing. He loved to stay busy working and was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Butch was always known for his "green thumb" whether it was his flowers, vegetables, or his lawn. He loved sharing the fruits of his labors with his family and friends. However, his greatest passion in life was his grandkids and great grandkids.
Butch is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his daughter Tamra and husband Elton Turley of Dalhart, Keitha and husband Troy Valdez of Dalhart. Grandchildren: Sheldon Turley and wife Kendra of Ansley, NE, Joslynn Turley Brown and husband Jacob of Dalhart, Gavin Valdez and wife Alex of Dalhart, Galen Valdez & wife Mackenzie of Dalhart. Great Grandchildren: Briggs Turley, Asher and Hudson Brown, Violet and Colter Valdez. Siblings: Richard Stovall and wife Reg of Lake Orion, MI, Liz Catron of Farmington, NM, and Jeaneene Poll of Green River, WY. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Granny and Grandad Stovall, OD and Fern Newman, his parents, JC and Luretta Stovall, brother Dan Stovall, sister Becky McClellan.
Viewing will be held at Horizon Funeral Home on Monday April 15th from 4p.m.-8p.m.
Celebration of life service will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday April 16th at Liberty Baptist Church in Dalhart. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
