Dorothy Mae Brady Mendez was born in Carthage, North Carolina April 29, 1922, to Lloyd and Blennie Stewart Brady.Funeral Services were held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Dalhart with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home. Dorothy relocated to Washington, D.C. in the early 1940s to work at the Pentagon as a decoder for military intelligence. While there, she met the love of her life, Louis. She followed him to the Panhandle of Texas and they married May 29, 1945. They were happily married for 55 years until Louis death in 2000. She then moved to Houston to be near Thom and Laura, and lived there with Laura and her family until her death. Dorothys dedication to the success of her children was her focus in life. She was also one of the oldest members of the First Presbyterian Church in Dalhart. She is survived by her children, John Mndez of Austin, Texas; Dr. Thomas Mndez and partner Delwin Fullen of Houston, Texas and Laura Mndez and partner Mona Hawk of Cypress, Texas. In addition, she is also survived by her sister, Rachel Brady of Carthage, North Carolina and cousin, The Honorable Tommy Stewart also of Carthage, North Carolina.She is also survived by in-laws; Lucille Springer of New Braunfels, Texas; Irene and Richard Cook of San Antonio, Texas; Julia and Scott Murray of Hutto, Texas, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews including Frank, Ben, Delores, Rusty, Beverly, Gloria, Carol, Candace, Stella, Reuben, Richard, Tina and Jon Paul. Extended family members are Robert Graham, Clayton Morgan, Ashley and George Asous, Brittany and Jack Johnson and much loved son Trevor. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis P. Mndez; her parents, Lloyd and Blennie Brady; her brothers June and Paul Brady, and sister Margaret Brady Crabtree.The family wishes to thank the wonderful physicians and excellent nurses in the IMU of St. Lukes Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas and her dedicated and loving caregivers Soledad Rodriguez and Paula Martinez. Without them, we would have been lost. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local pet rescue organization or the Wounded Warriors Project in Dorothys name.
