IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna Louise
Brasch-Summerour
October 17, 1947 – April 10, 2024
Donna Louise Brasch-Summerour, 76, of Dalhart, TX, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Central Methodist Church in Dalhart, TX, on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. (streaming on the Church's YouTube channel here), with a graveside service to follow. The family will receive guests at the XIT Museum after the graveside service.
Donna was born in Dalhart, TX, on October 17, 1947, to Dorothy ("Polly") and James Elmer ("J.E.") Summerour. She grew up on the Summerour Ranch with her older brothers, Jimmy, Johnny, and Buzz and their families, including her sisters-in-law Helen, JoWayne, and Nell, as well as her nieces Debra, Cindy, Kristi, Melody, Stephanie, Shana, and Shelly, and her nephew, Berry. In high school, she moved to the City of Dalhart with her parents, attended Dalhart High School, participated in 4-H and was elected Homecoming Queen.
Donna attended Colorado State University for college where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduating, she lived in Denver for a few years and then moved to California "because it sounded fun". There, she met Robert ("Bob") Brasch and the two married in 1980. With Bob, she had two boys, Austin and Preston, and a step-daughter, Denyse Shaw. Donna was a curious person who enjoyed gardening, trying new foods, and learning about other cultures. She traveled the world, including several countries in Europe and Asia, South Africa, Canada, and all over the US. However, she always returned to Dalhart, where she spent several summers with her boys, as well as every Christmas with the family.
Donna worked as a personal banker in L.A. for many years, eventually becoming Vice President. She left banking to raise Austin and Preston when they were 5 and 7 years old. Like everything, Donna threw herself into parenting, becoming President of the PTA at Austin and Preston's school, volunteering for Boy Scouts, driving Austin and Preston all over L.A. to various sports and classes, and cooking delicious meals for the family. When Austin and Preston were in high school, Donna began working at the after-school program they previously attended. In 2016, she and Bob retired in Dalhart, and she began volunteering for the XIT Museum, which became her passion — second only to spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jimmy and Johnny, and her nieces, Cindy and Shana. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Bob (Dalhart, TX); son, Austin, his spouse, Alexandra, and their two sons, Oliver and Henry (Los Angeles, CA); son, Preston, and his spouse, Parker (Calgary, Canada); step-daughter, Denyse, her spouse, Bob, and their children, Cayce and Mark (Sacramento and San Francisco, CA); brother, Buzz and his spouse, Nell (Dalhart, TX); sister-in-law JoWayne (Dalhart, TX); sisters-in-law Ingrid, Alice, and Maggie (Switzerland); and several extended family members, including several members of the Summerour, Pronger, and Brasch families.
Donna was known for her wonderful laugh and her personality that lit up every room that she walked into.
In lieu of flowers, Donna requested in her will that donations be made to the XIT Museum. Donations can be made at the following link: https://www.xitmuseum.org/support-the-museum.
