Donald K. "Buddy" Powell, 91, died Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Amarillo, TX Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Kurtis Abla officiating. Services are under the care of Horizon Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon at Horizon Funeral Home. Donald Keith Powell was born October 14, 1925 in Spur, TX to Chester and Sarah (Dillashaw) Powell. Buddy grew up in the Spur area on the Guitar Ranch. On June 8, 1946, he married Nettie Sue Jackson in Spur. They moved to Cactus, TX and then in 1964 to Dalhart, TX, they were members of the First Baptist Church of Dalhart, they moved to Amarillo in 1996. Mr. Powell was a decorated veteran of WWII where he served in Italy and commented he went from "one end of Italy to the other". He retired from the US National Guard after 35yrs of service. He farmed his whole life as well as spent over 34yrs working as an operator for Phillips Petroleum. Mr. Powell was a member of the Quail Creek Baptist Church in Amarillo. Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Sue, his son Kelly Glenn Powell, his parents and 8 siblings. He is survived by 2 sons; Ronny Keith Powell and his wife Suzanne of London, KY, Jay Dean Powell and his wife Kimberly of Tool, TX and a daughter Debra Sue Johnson and her husband Jay of Frisco, TX, his sisters; Helen Ford of Dalhart, TX, Mary Ann Barber of Bonner Springs, KS, and Sue Bennett of Jeffersonville and a brother; Pat Powell of Odessa, TX. 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
