Donald (Don) Gene McWhirter, 86, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Dumas, Texas. Memorial Service were held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Hartley Baptist Church. Officiating by Rev. Eddie Tubbs of Hartley Baptist Church. ~ Arrangements entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas. Don was born on Tuesday, December 22, 1931 to JA "Blackie" & Verda McWhirter in Celina, TX. Don married Betty Lou Craig on January 19, 1953 in Paducah, TX. After Don finished his service in the U.S. Navy they moved to Dalhart and in 1974 they moved to Hartley. Don was a mechanic, spray pilot and a farmer before retiring. He enjoyed bass fishing with his friends and was a member of Tip Top Bass Club. Don greeted everyone with a smile and kind word and sometimes a joke. He will be missed by his family and friends. Don is survived by his daughter- Cynthia Miller of Harley, TX and two sons- Bobby & his wife Diane Thomas of Dalhart, TX & Donny and his wife Renee McWhirter of Dalhart, TX Four grand-daughters: Sherri Thomas of Fort Worth, TX Jamie and her husband Clint Bell of Amarillo, TX Kasey and her husband Cody Petersen of Dalhart, TX and Kelsey and her husband Ben Glenn of Dalhart, TX - 2 grandsons: Kris and his wife Michele Williamson of DeMotte, IN, and Andrew Miller and his wife Katie of Kenly, NC 14 Great-grandchildren Tanner, Braiden, Reid, Nate, Benson, Collins, Angel, Halle, Joshua, Taylor, Alex, Zach, Nathaniel and Molly Don is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
