Don Ritchey, 86 of Dalhart, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2022. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:00am on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at NewLife Church with Pastor Mark Gallegos officiating. A Graveside Service will follow that afternoon in Grant County Cemetery in Ulysses, KS. Mr. Ritchey will lay in state from 2-6:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends immediately following from 6-8:00pm that evening. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home. It is with great sadness to announce that Donald Ray Ritchey passed away on February 1, 2022 in Dalhart, Texas. Donald grew up in Dalhart where he attended school. Later he attended West Texas in Canyon Texas. Don joined the Army on February 25, 1959, where he served his country faithfully. After being discharged from the Army he returned to Dalhart and worked as a farmer. He moved to Ulysses, Kansas where he ran Dons Mobil Station where he made many friends and raised his family. He moved to Clayton, New Mexico where he was a manager for the Napa Parts Store. While in Clayton he met Julia Marquez in 1987. Donald and Julia where inseparable. He was the love of her life. They where together till he was called home. Don loved to fish, hunt, and go camping. He also loved to go sight seeing in Colorado. He loved all kids, but especially the grandkids that came into his life. He was Grandpa Don to some and Popo Donald to others. He enjoyed being with his grandkids and going to watch them play basketball, run track, and going to school functions and watching their Christmas programs. Donald will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Don is preceded in death by his parents Gladys Peden Ritchey, Arthur Ritchey, son: Tim Ritchey, sister: Barbara Crim, and brother: Curtis Ritchey. Survivors include best friend and soul mate Julia Marquez of the home, two daughters Nikki Tarbet and husband Dave of Wichita, Kansas and Lisa Walstad and husband Brady of Wichita, Kansas. Two sisters: Irene Ritchey of Amarillo, Texas and Dee Ann Baumann and husband John of Holland, Michigan, ten grandchildren: Courtney Eslick, Trint Herzet, Jessica Tabor, Chelsey Snow, Jordan Hall, Clint Walstad, Kandra Ramsey, Stockton Walstad, Sherina Bickel and Dawnie Marquez. Fifteen great grandkids: Caley Eslick, Cody Eslick, Croix Eslick, Malachi Tabor, Gabriel Tabor, Olive Tabor, Abel Tabor, Jovie Snow, Emerson Hall, Lily Hall, Titus Walstad, Gavin Rodriquez, Landry Rodriquez, Zoe Bickel and Zerek Bickel.
