Donald John Mootz, age 85 Died, Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Amarillo, TX On Thursday, April 20, 2006, a Scripture Memorial service was held at 4:00 pm and at 6:00 pm the Elks Lodge conducted a special ceremony at Horizon Funeral Home. Friends visited with family from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Funeral HomeOfficiant was Father Scott Raef , Pastor of St. Anthonys Catholic Church, Dalhart, Texas Donald John Mootz was born December 13, 1920 in Bellevue, Iowa to John H. & Matilda (Wagner) Mootz. He married Esther Neuhaus on June 18, 1941 in Hopkinton, Iowa. Don and Esther started farming in Iowa in 1941, before moving to Platteville, Wisconsin in 1950. He farmed in Platteville, for twenty-five years. He moved to Texas in 1976 and farmed for thirty years in the Dalhart area. In 2000 when Dons eyesight failed he turned the day to day operation over to his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria & Tom Steffen. He was a farmer & cattleman all his life. He especially enjoyed purchasing his own feeders and finishing them out. Don spent a lot of time in the sale barns during his lifetime. He was a man who never left any grass grow under his feet but always found time to socialize with friends. Don was a member of the St. Anthonys Catholic Church, Dalhart Fraternal Order of Elks, and Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
