David Neal Smith, 62, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 3, 2021. A memorial service was be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Peoples Church in Dalhart, Texas. David was born to Nick and Carlene (Bennier) Smith on Sunday, August 3, 1958 in Dalhart, Texas. David Neal was a lifelong cattle buyer and trader. He was happiest sitting in the sale barn getting a free, "million-dollar education" from the old swappers, and he learned from the best. David loved kids and had a heart for teaching them to ride a horse or drive a car. He loved to make things grow, in his heart and on the ground; he lovingly made crosses and had more joy giving them all away. David loved his family and friends who were his family. Especially his good friend and boss, Travis Herod, who stayed by his side and always made sure he had everything that he needed from the day of his cancer diagnosis to the very end, its the cowboy way. A special thank you to Denise, Davids hospice nurse who was an angel. Rest in peace David Neal, you have been made whole again, gone but never forgotten. David will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Carlene Smith, sister, Sherry Lee, brother, Brent, niece, Madyson and husband Kale Lane, nephews, Tyler Smith, Wil McKean and Nickolas, aunt and uncle, Joyce and Jerry Walker and many loved cousins. David is preceded in death by, his dad, Nick Smith, sister, Nancy Ann Smith, and grandparents: Bill and Nancy Bennier and Harry and Eddie Lee Smith and aunt, Jeannette Baker.
