He was a man of adventure and laughter, whose presence was a source of joy to those around him.
David's early years in Raton laid the foundation for a life full of interesting tales and memorable experiences. He was a man who embraced the beauty of the simple things in life, whether it was playing a game of pool, casting a line into a serene lake, or losing himself in his favorite rock and roll tunes. David's passion for gaming was matched only by his talent for storytelling, always accompanied by his trademark big grin.
In his professional life, David was known as a dedicated and skilled heavy machinery operator, specializing in road construction. For nine years, he worked diligently in and around Dalhart, Texas, contributing to the growth and infrastructure of the community he called home. His colleagues respected him for his expertise and his ability to lighten the mood, no matter the situation.
Family was the cornerstone of David's life. Though preceded in death by his beloved mother, Lelamae Sena Mares, and his sister, Lisa Valles, his legacy lives on through his cherished family. David is survived by his father, Alfred Sandoval, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity. His children, Leo "Dusty" Stapleton, Emily Barnes, Fedel Sandoval, Yessena Sandoval, and David Sandoval Jr., all of Dalhart, will forever hold dear the lessons and laughter their father shared. David's joy was multiplied by the birth of his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure.
David's siblings, Carol Mares of Raton, New Mexico, Kelly Bonney of Denver, Colorado, Paul Mares, Jr. of Guymon, Oklahoma, Paula Mares, and Paulette Mares, all of Dalhart, will miss his funny anecdotes and adventurous spirit. The bond they shared was unbreakable, and the memories created will be treasured forever.
