On Thursday, September 17th, Cloyce Lidster, 89, entered into the care of His Lord Jesus Christ and began the next and final great relocation of his life. Viewing was held at Hillside Christian Church, Dalhart, TX on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Cloyces life was held Monday, September 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Dalhart, TX with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX. Cloyce Lidster was born to Arland and Dorothy Lidster July 12, 1931 in Clayton, Michigan. From the very beginning, life was not easy. Cloyces mother passed away from cancer when he was just 5, his mother was only 25 and left Cloyce and his older and younger sisters. His father married Dorthea who also died tragically when Cloyce was 18. The family was at that time Cloyce and four sisters. Arland had his hands full. The family continued to farm, and in 1949 added Thelma, the third wife and precious mother to the group. Cloyce grew up enjoying fishing, motorcycles and helping his dad on the farm. The love of farming was set deep in his heart at an early age and it became the passion of his life. He met a young Elaine Ellyn Kimerer at the Nazarene Church in Ridgeway, Michigan and a life-long love was born. Their relationship was interrupted by military service when Cloyce was assigned in the Army Air Corp and worked building communications towers in Alaska. After military service he and Elaine married, September 9, 1955 and settled down making a family and a life. Cloyce was dedicated and diligent. He worked in a factory, Tecumseh Products, during the night shift and farmed during the day. Long hours and hard work resulted in the purchase of their first farm in 1955 near Clayton, Michigan. Cloyce was a success at farming and the couple were successful in raising a family as well. Wayne Allen Lidster was born in 1956 and Barbara Elaine Lidster in 1959. Wanting to find more acres and richer soil, Cloyce and Elaine began to do what was rare for farmers of that day, they were looking to relocate. The search resulted in them moving to Claremont, Minnesota where more acres could be found and the family farm operation could expand. Innovation was part of Cloyces nature. He expanded the farm in size and added a large indoor hog facility which was a one-of-a-kind for individual farms of that time. Once again, the desire for expansion came and once again the family began to search for a new location where they could farm more acres and where Wayne and his wife Cindy (Petersburg) Lidster could also be part of the operation. It was in Dalhart Texas that the family found over 6,000 acres of irrigated farmland and much warmer conditions. The Lidsters made Dalhart their home in every way, practicing family, faith, and farming. They were active at First Baptist Church and soon grandchildren were being born and the family was fully immersed in the community. Cloyce was still the innovator. As one of many Minnesota farmers that had moved to the Dalhart area, he brought his experiences from Minnesota and Michigan and met the new challenges of irrigation, fertilization, and crop management with continued success. Overtime, the farm operation became more and more under Waynes leadership giving Cloyce and Elaine time to follow another passion of theirs, travel and visiting friends and family. Winters were spent in south Texas, Florida and Arizona. Eventually, they escaped the heat of Texas summers to a cabin they restored in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The couple made these retreats each year but Cloyce, until most recent times, was always home and involved in his two favorite events, planting and harvest. Even this last harvest season Cloyce, struggling to stand, was on the combine for the first few rounds on the farm he had built along with his son. A happier man there never was. Cloyce is preceded in death by his father Arland, mother, Dorothy and step mothers, Dorthea and Thelma and his sisters Florine Baker, Jeanette Dewitt and Beth Meyer. He is survived by his Wife Elaine, son Wayne Lidster and his wife Cindy, daughter Barbara Ledbetter and her husband Robert and one sister Joyce McNeil. Home at last, we love and miss you dad!
