Charles L. Chuck Harruff,91, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Dalhart, TX.Funeral Services were held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2008 in the Central United Methodist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.Officiating was Steve Patterson, Minister of the Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TXSurvivors include his wife Billie Harruff of Dalhart, TX 2 Sons: Lynn Harruff of Dalhart, TX and Kirk Harruff of Abilene, TX. A daughter: Karen Babitzke of Spearman, TX 7 grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. His extended family includes: Keith Heiskell, Sue Ballinger and Staunton Whiteaker.Charles Louis Harruff was born August 3rd, 1917 in Columbus, Ohio to Charles W. and Alma (Ruetech) Harruff. Chuck was raised in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and graduated from Reynoldsburg High School. He then attended Ohio State University before joining the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942. He flew Bombers in the European Theatre during WWII. When stationed at the Air Base in Dalhart he met Mary Helen Johnson. On July 2nd, 1944 they were married. After the war they returned to Ohio where Chuck graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in dairy technology. In 1947 they moved back to the Dalhart area where he ranched for many years. Chuck was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church and served on the Church Board. Mary Helen died on September 13, 1994. Mr. Harruff was involved in the Dalhart Community and had serviced on the Dalhart Independent School Board, the Agricultural Stabilization committee, as well as being a 4-H leader and was the first winner of the 4-H Silver Spur Award.
