Charles Dayland Bollinger, 87, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Amarillo, TX.Services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dalhart. Rev. Dave Smallegan, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church.Charles Dayland Bollinger was born December 20, 1924 in Dalhart, TX to Lester J. and Lula (Atkinson) Bollinger. He lived in Dalhart all his life with the exception of Army duty during WWII. He was in the invasions of Guam and Okinawa. Would have been in the invasion of Japan had the war not ended. Mr. Bollinger returned to Dalhart and attended AC and WTSC. He worked on the Rock Island RR for 32 years, 8 years on the Southern Pacific. Charles was married to Bobby Templeton for 21 years and had 3 children; Lester, Gay, and Carrie. On November 23, 1991 he married Johnnie Clayton and gained one stepson Tom Clayton.Mr. Bollinger became a Master Mason in 1953 and since then, he was twice worshipful Master of the Rock Island Lodge #869. During that time, he was also past District Deputy Grand Master of District 103.He was past high Priest of the Royal Arch Masons #196 in Amarillo. He was Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Amarillo R &SM #134. He was Past Commander of the Knights Templar of Texas, Commandery #48 in Amarillo. He was Past Worshipful Master of Triangle #1135 in Texline. Last, but not least, he was Worthy Patron twice of Dalhart Eastern Star #1051.Most important, however, he received the second highest award the Masons can give a member - the Golden Trowel, which was presented in 2005 by Rock island Lodge #869. He is survived by his wife Johnnie Goodnight Bollinger of Dalhart, TX, his son C. Lester and wife Beth Bollinger of Dumas, TX, his daughters Gay and her husband Dean Ames of Dalhart, TX and Carrie Nation and her husband Gary of Childress, TX. Step-son Tom Clayton and his wife Trena of Greensboro, NC.9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers.
