Carroll R. Krahn, 87, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 in Dalhart, Texas. A graveside service was held Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, Texas. Carroll Roberson Krahn was born January 22, 1932 in Vega, Texas to Everett L. and Lou "Agnes" (Roberson) Krahn. He was raised in Vega and Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1950. He received a Bachelors degree in agriculture from Texas Tech University in 1954. Carroll married the love of his life, Erma Jeane Ricketson on August 23, 1958. He and Erma then moved with his parents to Atoka, Oklahoma to work on the family ranch. Carroll and Erma moved to Dalhart in 1969, where he began processing cattle for different feed yards around the area. In the beginning, he employed his Ricketson brother-in-laws and his own children as they became old enough. Throughout the years, Carroll employed many transients, earning their respect and loyalty, as his honesty and kind nature became known in that community. Once all the kids started school, Erma began working, making the processing crew a family business. As son and daughter-in-laws came into the family and grandchildren became old enough to hold a hot shot without shocking anyone, everyone was helping on the crew. Carroll retired from processing in 2000 and stayed home to work in his much-loved wood shop with Erma. In 2002, he began his second working-career as a prison guard at the Dalhart unit, retiring after 10 years at the age of 82. Carroll is preceded in death by his parents Everett and Agnes Krahn, his brothers E.L. and Ken Krahn, and his much loved and missed son Kyle Krahn.
