Carl Bayne, 98, died on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in Dalhart, Texas. Graveside services were held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX. Officiating was by Jim York of the Denver Ave. Church of Christ ~ Arrangements provided by Horizon Funeral Home. Carl Preston Bayne was born near Cisco, Texas in Madison County to William Alexander & Mary Evalena (Thigpen) Bayne. Carl served in the US Army as a PFC during WWII. He was stationed in Australia, New Zealand and El Paso, Texas. On October 5, 1946 he married Gloria Mae Gollihar in Clovis, NM. Gloria worked as a night telephone operator and was very well acquainted with Carls mother and brother. Carls mother asked Gloria if she would write to Carl while he was in the service. Carl farmed and after he got out of the service, he had a friend who was a welder that encouraged Carl to go to welding school. After his eyes were burned from welding Carl began driving a truck hauling grain. Many years ago, the Baynes moved to Dalhart. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Gloria Mae Bayne, 2 daughters - Carolyn P. Elliott and Sharon E. Graham, a brother- Henry Lee Bayne of Billings, MO and a sister-in-law- Kathy Stroud of Boise, ID. Carl is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers William & James Bayne.
