Billie Jean Gates, a beacon of faith and love, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, in Dalhart, Texas, at the age of 70. Born on July 20, 1953, in Lubbock, Texas, she was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Billie Jean was the loving heart of her family, leaving behind her devoted husband, James Gates, her son Russell Gates and his wife Jamie, her daughter Andrea Esquivel and her husband Mario, and her adored grandchildren, Cooper, Kalob, Wyatt, and Easton Gates, and Kamran and Kruz Esquivel. She was a daughter to her mother, Mary Lou Martin, and a sister to Francis and her husband Tandy Martin. Her extended family, including brothers and sisters-in-law Barbara Crain, Hershell Gates and wife Tracy, Don Gates and wife Carla, Ben Gates and wife Peggy, Elvin Gates and wife Marilyn, and Roxie Hammer and husband Donnie, will miss her deeply. Billie Jean was preceded in death by her son Andrew Ray Gates, her father Billy Ray Martin, and her brothers Randy and Jerry Martin.

A woman of profound faith, Billie Jean dedicated her life to leading others to the Lord. Her passion for music was evident as she played the piano and lifted her voice in song within her church community. Her creative spirit shone through her love of crafts. Above all, she was an excellent wife, mother, and Maw Maw, whose love for her family knew no bounds.

Billie Jean will be remembered as a loving, faith-filled, and passionate soul. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will be treasured, and her presence sorely missed.

Memorial Services will be conducted Saturday March 30th, 2024 at 12:00PM At the Channing Community building in Channing, Texas
