William E. Bill Martin, 80, died Friday, May 4, 2007 in Dalhart, TX Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 7, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Jerry Moore, Pastor of Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart, TX, and George Chambers, Pastor of Lakeview United Church of Dalhart, TX. William Ellsworth Martin was born May 15, 1926 to James and Hazel (Laird) Martin in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Mr. Martin joined the armed forces on February 11, 1944 he married Kattie E. Wadlow on May 22nd, 1945 in Las Vegas, NV. After WWII they farmed in the Rio Grande Valley near Mission, TX before moving to Iowa in 1950. In 1973 they moved to Dalhart and sold farm Chemicals before going back to farming here in the Dalhart area. Bill was instrumental in starting the local chapter of Gideons International. A longtime member of Central United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School and was active in a number of Church activities. Mr. Martin was also past president of the National Hay Association, member and past president of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce.
