Betty June Camie Menges, 81, of Dalhart, TX, passed away on Friday, April, 27 2012 in Amarillo, TX.A Memorial Service was held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at First Christian Church in Dalhart, TX. A private family burial was held at Gruver cemetery. Betty June was born on March 27, 1931 in Stratford, Texas; the daughter of Emory Street Roper and Arizona A. Roper. She married Wayne Smith in January of 1950 and lived in St. Louis, MO. where they had 3 children. They returned to Dalhart In 1971. After Waynes death in 1984, she married Frank Menges. Betty June currently served on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels for 25+ years as well as a volunteer driver. She proved to be an extremely strong and resilient woman to the very end. A sweet and caring mother and grandmother, she valued and cherished the importance of family and friendship, always surrounded by the things that mattered most in life. Betty June is survived by her daughter Deborah Heyman of Shinnston, WV, Melissa McKie of Dallas, TX. and son Clay Smith of Oakland, CA, her granddaughters Zoe and Amy and grandsons Dane, Samuel and James and life-long best friend Bonnie McKie.The family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels Foundation in Dalhart, TX. 1411 Denver Ave. ~ Dalhart, TX 79022
