Betty McAlister joined her parents, her brother James Robert, her daughter Merri Spencer, her grandson Nathaniel Day, numerous loved ones, and, most importantly, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on January 9, 2021. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Dalhart, Texas. Kurtis Abla officiated. Betty was born on March 6, 1930 in Dalhart, Texas to Betty "Fern" Fuson and Marvin Enfield. Throughout her life she was a faithful daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and "Mema". Her husband, Bob McAlister, remains earth side and cannot wait to see his best friend again. In their 73 years of marriage, she brought "full confidence in her hands" to all she did and they "lacked nothing of value" as she brought "good, all the days of her life" (adapted, Proverbs 31). Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness remains behind in her 5 daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Her daughters are Olga McAlister of Amarillo, TX; Debbie Smith and husband David of Amarillo, TX; Becky McAlister of Fort Worth, Texas; Beth Spencer and husband Michael of Artesia, NM; and Amy Grantham and husband Michael of Artesia, NM. They will miss their mom but are thankful she finally gets to spend more time with their sister, Merri. No matter where life took her or what it brought her way, her faith in Gods goodness and righteousness remained constant. She was a minister through her heart and voice, but it was the use of her hands that provided her most eloquent ministry. She not only used them to lift them high to praise her Savior, but with them she cooked thousands of meals for family, friends, parishioners, and people in need. One of her fondest memories as a child was helping her mother cook for the out-of-work men and women who would ride the trains in search of a job and they all somehow knew that if they walked a couple miles from their train stop in Dalhart, they would find a house on Otis street where a hot meal would be waiting. With her hands, she wrote to loved ones throughout the country and abroad to bring words of peace, comfort, love, and joy in her beautiful script. With these same hands, she comforted and loved not only her own family, but countless children who needed a mothers touch, a warm hug, or a guiding hand. And with her hands, she will continue to praise her Lord and serve Him for eternity. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to either New Mexico Baptist Childrens Home in Portales, New Mexico (https://www.nmbch.com/) or St. Judes hospital in honor of Betty McAlister.
