Bertha Blake, 82, died Friday, September 25, 2015 in Canyon, TX Services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Spiritual Life Center - the Pastor Leon Laney officiating. Bertha Eddie Mitchell was born December 29, 1932 in Canadian, OK (now Eufala) to John Odell Mitchell, Sr. and Edna Alma (Powell) Mitchell. Bertha married Gene Lockhart in Clayton, NM on March 5, 1949. She worked for the Moore, Sherman, Dallam and Hartley County Draft Board from the 1950 to 1962- and in that time she walked many family members and friends to the bus station to send them off to basic training. Mr. Lockhart died in 1980. On June 1, 1975 she married Norvell Blake in Dalhart, TX, he died in 2002. Bertha worked as a seamstress, food service supervisor for several nursing homes and was a loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Gene Lockhart and Norvell Blake, her brothers; Jackie Paul Mitchell, Jerral Lee Mitchell, Jimmy Ray Mitchell and a son Joe Ray Lockhart. Survivors include her daughters Cyndie and her husband Don Bell of Albuquerque, NM, Peggy Teague of Brady, TX, Debbie and her husband Mike Smithberger of Canyon, TX, a son; John and his wife Shirley Lockhart of Clarendon, TX. stepson Willie and his wife Deanne Blake of Stratford, TX. 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren + one on the way and 3 great-great grandchildren + one on the way. Her sister Betty Fletcher and brothers Johnny Mitchell and Jerry Mitchell.
