Annie was the daughter of Winchester and Beulah Orr. She was the youngest of a dozen siblings. Annie was the last of 12 kids and was born at home on Matlock Street in Dalhart. She was a lifelong resident of Dalhart and was like a history book, she knew everyone. Annie was witty and had so many relatives. She liked to reminisce about childhood days and raising her kids and visiting family. Ann married Joe P. Garrison in 1965 and they spent 40 happy years together. She always referred to him as the love of her life. Together they raised 3 children: Mike, Jackie and Gina. Joe was an involved father and they had a great family together. Later in life, joe and Ann raised Milton, their grandson. She enjoyed motherhood and being Meemaw. She and Joe shared many adventures together traveling and enjoying life.
Ann was known as Meemaw to everyone related or not. She loved to cook and always had an open door to host, inviting anyone who needed a meal. Meemaw was known to cook her own way and not really follow a recipe. She would make substitutions as needed based on her liking or what she had on hand in the pantry. Ann called herself a "short order cook" and could make a meal out of only a few ingredients. She worked for years at the B&B Caf and other local cafes as a waitress and made many friends. Ann loved to tell stories about her family, and she was related to so many people in town. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ on Denver. When she married Joe, her faith and family were of utmost importance. She wanted her family to know Jesus and prayed for them daily. Ann helped at the church in the kitchen until she physically was not able to. Meemaw could be found having lunch at the Senior Citizens Center daily and getting her hair fixed every Friday. She loved red and wearing lots of jewelry. Meemaw had a great sense of humor and enjoyed cooking. She loved to travel and was always ready to go. If someone was going on a trip, her bag was packed, and she was going. She also enjoyed watching old western movies, eating ice cream and reading her bible every day. Being with her family was a top priority. Meemaw wanted everyone to be together during the holidays and eat plenty of food, so she cooked for an army.
We had a small family celebration for her most recent birthday in November on her patio and she was open in saying, "Im on borrowed time." Ann was confidant in heaven and where she was headed next.
She is preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings including an infant brother, baby Orr; her husband: Joe Garrison and one daughter: Gina Culbertson.
Ann is survived by her children: Mike Higgs and wife Laguiya of Amarillo and Jackie Fox of Dalhart; grandchildren: Milton Culbertson and wife Keri of Dalhart, Marie Kunkel of Delaware, Dewayne Higgs and Dianne Higgs both of Amarillo; great grandchildren: Brayden Smith, Marissa Higgs, Joy and AnnaBelle Culbertson and one great great granddaughter: Skylannah Smith.
