Annette White Thompson, 92, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, in Amarillo, TX A Memorial Service was held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Ware Living Center , 400 w. 14th St. , Amarillo, TX Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Dalhart, TX . Officiating was Steve Patterson, Minister, Central united Methodist Church, Dalhart, TX. Annette White was born to George M. White and Lola Matthews White on November 3, 1918, in Dalhart. She attended Dalhart schools and was one of six members of the Dalharts Dancing Darlings dance group during grade school. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1935 at the age of 16. She was employed by Dalhart Abstract Co. for a year, then attended West Texas State College (now West Texas A & M University) in Canyon, where she was a member of Pi Omega Sorority and graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Annette taught for one year in Plemons, Texas, High School, then moved to Los Angeles, California in 1941, and was employed by Collins-Powell, Inc, a defense materials procurement company in Beverly Hills, California.Annette married Burton Thompson, Jr. on December 25, 1941 at Wilshire Blvd Christian Church in Los Angeles. The couple lived in Beverly Hills until 1944. World War II, Burton served in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed at Norman, Oklahoma, as an instructor at the Technical Training Center where Annette was employed as a Civil Service secretary at the Naval Air Station Following the war, she and her husband returned to Dalhart, where she was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church, member of the Open Door Sunday School Class, the Contemporary Study Club for over 60 years, the Petal Pushers Garden Club, and a 40-year member of her Tuesday bridge club. She also served as a Brownie Scout troop leader and a Cub Scout den mother and was active in the PTA. In her later years, she was a volunteer mentor in the H.O.S.T.S. reading program and a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. While she was a resident of Legacies Assisted Living, she was instrumental in organizing a monthly Sunday School meeting of the Open Door class there. She moved to Amarillo in 2009 after being injured in a fall and was a resident of the Ware Living Center where she participated in the bell choir and amazingly learned oil painting.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Elouise Worthy and Pauleen Schnell, and her brother, George Merle White, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Ann Perry and husband Sam Perry of Amarillo, a son, Gary Burton Thompson and wife Vicki Thompson of Littleton, Colorado, four grandchildren - Kathleen Wise and husband Mike of Broken Arrow, OK; Carolyn Short and husband Mike Short of Spearfish, SD; Kelsey Ahern and husband Mike Ahern of Austin; and Houston Thompson of Glen Gardner, NJ; and three great- grandchildren Evan and Houston Roles of Spearfish and Lindsey Wise of Broken Arrow.The family suggests memorials to the Central United Methodist Church, Dalhart Senior Citizens Association, or to a favorite charity.
