Services will be held in Dalhart, Monday, March 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery.Andrew David Craig was born March 21, 1948 in Gladewater, Texas to Nick and Audra Craig weighing only 2lbs.and 12oz. ( he quickly made up for the small weight and was called the miracle baby) His family moved to Dalhart, Texas in 1952. While in school Andy was involved in Boy Scouts and Music. He began to sack groceries at the age of 15 in order to feed his insatiable appetite for vinyl records, books and the latest electronic gadgets. He worked later at Coon Memorial Hospital where his keen mind and interest in all areas of medicine, was recognized by the Doctors who began allowing Andy to observe various surgeries, assisting in the Lab and X-ray, and working in the emergency room.He Graduated from Dalhart High School in 1966 and enrolled at Abilene Christian University as a premed student. He continued his interest in music by playing the baritone in the ACU Big Purple Band. He worked at West Texas Medical Center to help finance his schooling and also worked in the college work study program as a secretary to a biology professor.He started working in the Respiratory Therapy Department while at the West Texas Medial Center of Abilene, Texas, and was soon offered the position of Chief of Respiratory at the Memorial Hospital in Center, Texas. In 1974, he moved to Dallas to work at the Brentwood Hospital and then came to work at the Dallas VA Medical Center in January of 1976. He continued to work there as Assistant Chief of Respiratory, in service to our Veterans, until his death.Andy had a love and compassion that went out to everyone he met regardless of their station in life (including all four legged creatures). He truly had a servants heart. He was a member of the Church of Christ.Andy is survived by a sister Claudia Truax and her husband Ken from Independence, MO. A nephew Daniel Truax also of Independence, MO. A niece Amy Garlett and her husband Matt of Corder, MO. and a niece in law Michelle King of Saint Joseph, Mo. Three great nieces, Indigo Truax, Zoe Truax and Audra Garlett. Andy is also survived by other very close family members, coworkers and friends.
