Anastacia Hernandez Gomez, age 82, resident of Dalhart, Texas went to be with Our Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2008. Prayer vigil was held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Dalhart, TexasFuneral Mass was held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Scott L. Raef, pastor St. Anthonys Catholic Church of Dalhart and father Hector Madrigal of St. Josephs Catholic Church of Amarillo officiated. Anastacia was born in Melvin, Texas to Jose Maria Hernandez and Vincenta Munoz Padilla on January 22, 1926. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jesus Varela Gomez and her parents Jose and Vincenta Hernandez and Bernabe Gomez and Rosario Varela Gomez. She is survived by her 12 Children, Mary Ellen Torrez; Vince and his wife Cecilia Gomez ; Lucy Gibbens ; Jorge and his wife Sue Gomez ; Mercedes Padilla ; Jesus and his wife Elaine Gomez ; Hector Gomez ; Alice and her husband Bud Williams ; Fobie and her husband Frankie Montoya ; Ruby and her husband Dave Donogen ; Rory and his wife Judy Gomez all of Dalhart, Texas and Matthew Gomez of Amarillo, Texas. Two brothers; Miguel and his wife Tolana Hernandez of El Paso, Texas and Guadalupe and his wife Narcisa Hernandez of Amarillo, Texas. Two sisters; Juanita Hernandez of Dalhart, Texas and Gloria and her husband Enrique Ponce of Victorville, California. 45 Grandchildren, 78 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, neighbors and friends. At the young age of 6, Anastacia was a sheep herder in Mexico and her older brother Miguel was a very stern man and would get upset with her if she let the sheep get away.Anastacia was an active member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Dalhart and was a very strong woman in her faith, which that faith was instilled in her children. She was very dedicated to her children and their children, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, and the Best Tamale maker this side of the Rio Grande.Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons:Travis Donogen, Eric Gomez, Vince Gomez Jr., Mario Gomez, Ruben Donogen, Larry Torrez, Michael Montoya, Ron Gibbens, Greg Carter, Aaron Gomez, Chad Gates, Jesse Torrez, Josh Gomez, Jesse Alfonso Gomez, Philip Gomez and Vino Gomez.
