Tim Hamlin

July 27, 1956 — April 29, 2025

Garden City, KS

Garden City - Tim Hamlin, 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in the home he built with the love of his life, Dee, whom he married on June 14, 1980. When she died on September 22, 2023, it was a loss so great that his heart felt heavy and broken. Now, Papa is reunited and at ease with Mama Dee.

Timothy B. Hamlin was born on July 27, 1956, in Syracuse, Kansas to Howard and Marlene (Helfrich) Hamlin. He spent most of his early years in Dalhart, Texas, a place that remained special in his heart. Tim graduated from Garden City High School in 1974 and worked the remaining part of the decade building homes in the area.

In 1980, Tim began his career at Sunflower Electric Holcomb Station and retired as a shift supervisor in 2017. He always maintained his plumbing license and for the last years of his life, he drove a tow truck, loader, and a Bobcat; most recently though, Tim began his most enjoyable type of transportation: preschool pick-up line and daycare drop-off.

Tim was a family man first and dedicated his life to ensuring his children knew love, security, and success. A knowledgeable and skilled man, Tim took serious care in ensuring the safety of his employees and in teaching others in any of the fields he held expertise such as mechanics, aviation, electrical generation, and construction.

His interests included motorcycles, evenings at the barn, American History, and trips down memory lane. Tim had the best stories and could talk for hours. He enjoyed outings and card-playing with his dad and brothers, going to Saturday fly-ins, and driving America’s dirt roads and highways to see family and friends. Tim appreciated good music and ended each evening listening away with a dog by his side.

Tim is survived by his four children: Emily (David), William “B.J.” (Sara), Steven (Whitney), and Chris (Brynne); nine grandchildren: Caitlyn, Tierney, Jameson, Alivia, Paislee, T.J., Elijah, and the twins, Beckhem & Asher; and Dee’s siblings: Sheri (Steve) Wood, Clayton (Carri) Hummer, and Andrea (Wayne) King.

Tim is also survived by the man he revered the most: his father, Howard. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings Kent (Mary), Candace (Jerry), and Jeff.

Tim was preceded in death by his wife, Dianna “Dee” (Hummer) Hamlin; his father- and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Frances Hummer; sister-in-law Janice (Rome) Hamlin, nephew Sean Hummer, and niece Brooke Hamlin Lopez. He is now also reunited with his mother, Marlene, who he has deeply missed for 31 years.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 12pm to 8pm at Garnand Funeral Home with family calling hours from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10am at Garnand Funeral Home with ….officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery at Syracuse, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Hope Lodge of Kansas City, the Little Light House of Tulsa, or the EAA Chapter 377 Flying Club in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
