Rebecca Katherine Garcia Romero, 85, of Dalhart, passed away on July 13, 2025 in Amarillo. Graveside service will be held 10:00 AM on Sat, July 19, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Father John Lawrence officiating. Rebecca was born on July 1, 1940, in Corrumpa, New Mexico to Adolph and Esther Garcia. She dedicated her career as a custodian at the local high school, a role she embraced wholeheartedly, contributing to the educational environment with pride and commitment. Known for her straightforward personality, Rebecca was not one to express affection through words; rather, she conveyed her love through her actions and thoughtful gestures. Her role as a caregiver exemplified her unselfish nature and devotion to her family, who were the center of her life.
On October 15, 1955, Rebecca married Pete Argnello Romero in Clayton, New Mexico. Together, they built a life filled with love and care for their family. Tragically, they shared their journey for many years before Pete's passing, leaving a profound mark on Rebecca's heart.
Rebecca is survived by her beloved children, Roy Romero and his wife Joanie, Mary Belle Romero Lopez and her husband Fernando, and Esther Romero Baker and her husband Paul. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Angela and Lonnell, Brandon, Amber and Terra, Jason, April, Melissa, Katy, Josh, Jessica, Snow Lopez, Rebecca Romero, and Benji and Dave Wall, Alix Allen, along with Ben and Ludi Romero. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Preslie, Steele, Hunter, Caroline, Ezekiel, Peaches, and Enzo.
Rebecca was lovingly supported by her sisters Shirley Luera, Judy Gallegas, Cleo Pena, Paula Isbell, Virginia Encinias and husband Carl, and Gloria Chavira and husband Alfredro, who shared countless memories and experiences with her throughout their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete A. Romero; her daughter, Darlene Rebecca Romero; her son, Rocky Reyes Romero; grandsons Zachary Dayne Romero and Matthew Nicholas Romero; her parents, Adolph and Esther Garcia; her brothers Orlando Dora Garcia, Junior Garcia, Tommy Garcia, Alex Garcia, Danny Garcia, and Lawrence Garcia; her sister Dolores Vigil; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Charlie Luera, James Isbell, Joe Abeyta, Tony and Susan Romero, Christy Romero, Moses and Stellia Romero, Rudy Romero, Carolyn Wheeler, and Lorene Montoya. She was also preceded by her father and mother-in-law, Moses and Isabel Romero.
