Mary Nell Perkins, a dedicated member of the Dalhart community and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, in Dalhart, TX. Born on May 1, 1950, in Whitney, TX, Mary Nell’s life was marked by dedication, love, and a spirited enthusiasm for the outdoors and family.

The family has entrusted Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Mary's Home-going Celebration.

Mary Nell attended Dalhart High School before pursuing higher education at Frank Phillips College, where she earned her Associate of Applied Science and studied Computer Information Systems, graduating in 1982. With her sharp intellect and compassionate nature, she served faithfully as the Human Resources Clerk and Warden Secretary at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, a career that demonstrated a commitment to be a public servant with professionalism.

In her earlier years, Mary Nell was known for her adventurous spirit, especially her love for riding motorcycles. Her love for life extended into her hobbies. She enjoyed card games with friends and family, hiking, and spending time in the mountains. She always found beauty and peace found in the outdoors.

Mary Nell was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and loved to sing especially solos, Patsy Cline was her favorite country artist.

Mary Nell’s legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Joseph Perkins of Dalhart, TX, and her children: Wade Rippie and his wife Lani of Palmer, AK; Sheldon Rippie and his wife Nancy of Tonapah, NV; and Tonya Dunlap Hargrove and her husband Scott of Amarillo, TX. Together, she and Joseph were blessed with eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who brought an abundance joy and love to her life.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Victor Odell Fowler; mother, Dorothy Rich (Pryor); sister, Dixie Jean Wilkerson; brothers, Ray Dell Fowler, James Fowler, and Walter Fowler; and one grandson. Though they have passed, their influence and love remain interwoven in the tapestry of Mary Nell’s life.

Mary Nell Perkins's warmth, vitality, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire her family and friends, reminding them of the beauty found in simple pleasures and the strength of a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
