Joyce Jean Sims Johnson, 81, a deeply beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, & friend to so many, went home to her Heavenly Father May 1, 2026, while in a Wichita Falls TX hospital, passing away after recent health complications.

Born on January 25, 1945, in Albertville, AL, Joyce lived a life of dedication to hard work, supporting and raising her children, doing for others by always being there by physically & emotionally. Even with recent pain and health setbacks, her tenacious determination, pride, and refusal to give up was strong.

Joyce loved her family fiercely. Her loving husband, Don, was her rock. Steady, unwavering & supportive every single day of their 4-year courtship & 42 years of marriage, he was her loyal, compassionate, gentle, encouraging, loving, constant companion. Her other constant companion was Bandi, her cherished miniature poodle that her daughters joked was their little brother. She loved him dearly and said he was her little angel. She adoringly loved her 10-year-old cat, Quinn, and looked forward to daily affection from her.

Joyce began working at a very young age helping support her family. After graduating from Dalhart High School, she attended Beauty School & worked as a hairdresser until she began her 30-year career at City National Bank in 1977. Joyce became known as Guymon’s best known bank teller & won the award 5 out of 7 years. Customers would come wait in line for extended periods just to receive her personal service and interaction. She had an amazing ability and talent to make others feel special and cared for.

Joyce had 4 daughters to support, so in the evenings after working at the bank, she cut hair for additional income. As a single mom, she tirelessly worked and saved money to provide for her family. After meeting the love of her life, she & Don became partners in marriage, parenting, grandparenting, and shared every aspect of family life.

She had a special place in her heart for animals. That compassion shone through in so many ways. From the turtles in her backyard that came and waited for apples and turtle food, to the dogs & cats she lovingly saved and cared for.

She loved gardening & was clearly a natural. Her backyards in Guymon & in Wichita Falls were truly reflective of her growing and nurturing God’s creation. Her vegetables, fruit, flowers, and shrubs all thrived under her loving care. She generously shared them with everyone & often had Don go plant her gardening gifts in others’ yards. So many Guymon & Wichita Falls families have a piece of her that will live on for years.

Joyce was very athletic & played on several softball leagues. She was also a talented pool player. Until less than a year ago, she still played pool with her husband, friends, grandkids & children. She gave them a good run for their money and would heartedly laugh when, to their surprise, she won & took their quarters. Joyce & her sisters & brother had fun, fierce Aggravation board game and volleyball competitions.

Joyce loved to try new things. She sewed, crocheted & mastered many crafts through the years. She took up cake decorating and was a natural. Her beautifully decorated cakes were special gifts from her heart. She loved giving her handmade scarves, hats, potholders and blankets to others. Through the years, she amassed an impressive coin collection as well. Joyce looked forward to seeing movies with her kids and grandkids. She loved reading, riding bikes & loved swimming at the therapy pool. She excitedly joined any new adventure with her daughters & absorbed the joy and laughter they would share.

She had a special bond with all her daughters, and she was so proud of each of them. She was proudest that they were loyal, loving, supportive & close to each other. Family relationships were important to her. She treasured hers every single day.

Above all, Joyce was her 4 daughters’ biggest cheerleader and supportive of their individual aspirations and goals. She was the heart and steady center of her family. A constant source of endless, unconditional love to her daughters and grandchildren, as well as to those who came to know her as a Mom or Grandma figure.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Alexander Reneau; her father, Arbie Buford Sims; sister Ruby Sims Odland; brother Arbie Buford Sims Jr., nephew David Noe and niece Brenda Sue Patzkowski.

Joyce is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband, Donald Johnson; sister Ruth Elaine Hart, her daughters, Nancy Maytum Deane, Tracy Maytum Mundell (Doug), Dana Maytum Parr (Lindy), Reba Jeanee Shuck (Robin); grandsons Ty Merle Deane, Zachary Pecor (Aston), and Brody Shuck; granddaughters Tana Deane Venegas, Trista Parr, Makayla Pecor Reams (Brady), and Morgan Shuck; great granddaughters Allison Deane, Cassandra Villa, and Ellie Pecor; great grandsons Emery Eason, Cail Deane, Junior Jaramillo, Anthony Venegas, Titus Venegas, and Oliver Pecor and Hudson Reams; niece Denise Martinez (Adam); and nephew John Trujillo (Diana), and countless treasured friends and loved ones.

Her funeral will be held at 2:00 on May 30, 2026, in Dalhart TX at the Dalhart Funeral Home, 424 Rock Island Ave. Graveside services will follow.
