With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joyce Chisum who entered eternal rest on May 4, 2024 at the age of 91. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Dalhart Church of Christ, 1420 Denver Ave. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Joyce was born on August 2, 1932 in Texhoma, Oklahoma and went on to graduate from Texhoma High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, Curtis Chisum, on July 25, 1952, and shared many happy years until his passing on July 8, 1992. Joyce continued her education, graduating from Panhandle State University in 1971. She played an integral role in the family business, utilizing her skills as a proficient bookkeeper. Joyce was a devout member of Denver St. Church of Christ, where she found joy in teaching Sunday school and sharing her faith with others. She also dedicated her time as a substitute teacher and 4-H leader in her community. In the free time that remained, Joyce loved to read and play bridge.
Joyce is survived by her loving children, Curtis Carl Chisum and wife Peggy of Dalhart, and Dana Stallwitz and husband Darren of Dumas. She leaves behind cherished siblings Mary Beth Blake and Judy Morgan. Joyce is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Brandi Ford and husband Steve, Heather Blackwell and husband Jono, Nikki Frazier and husband Nathan, Crysta Riseling and husband Craig, and Garrett Stallwitz and wife Madison. 12 great-grandchildren carry on Joyce's legacy and include Noah Ford and wife Claire, Halle and Kandin Ford, Caleb and Luke Blackwell, Corbin and Collins Frazier, Palmer and Sutton Bo Riseling, and Poppy, Hank, and Sunny Stallwitz. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Chisum, parents Otto and Madeline Harland, daughter Vonna Goodpasture and husband Mark, grandchildren Lance and Brooke Goodpasture, and siblings Paul Harland and Elene Green.
Joyce's love of family is captured most clearly in her memoir where she recounts, "Curtis and I had a good life with God blessing us in many ways but most especially with the greatest children and grandchildren ever."
