Carl Julius Kuper II “J.”, 69, lifelong resident of Dalhart, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in Amarillo. A Funeral Service celebrating J.’s life will be at 10:00 o’ clock in the morning on Monday, August 18, 2025, at First Baptist Church with Brother Kurtis Abla officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Kuper Family will welcome guests from 5 until 7 o’ clock in the evening on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Horizon Funeral Home.
J. was born on March 21, 1956, in Amarillo to Carl Julius Kuper and Norva Jeanne Kuper. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1974. After high school J went to West Texas A&M for one semester then went to work for his father on their third-generation family farm. J met the love of his life Cheryll Westbrook Harruff, and they were married on August 10, 1984, at the First Baptist Church in Dalhart. Continuing the family legacy, J purchased his own land and farmed with his son until he retired in February of 2024. In addition to his love for farming, he added a small herd of Longhorns. J had many interests including fishing, golfing, flying, cars, motorcycles, and loved his music! He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Boy Scouts.
J was preceded in death by his son, Carl Julius Kuper III; his parents, Carl Julius and Norva Jeanne Kuper; his grandparents, Carl Kuper, Earline Locke, Norval Yoder, and Marjorie Johnson Yoder; and his aunt and uncle, Alice and Jim Yoder.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryll, of the home; his children, Chelsey Baker and husband, George, of Dallas, Cassidy Kuper of Dalhart, and Colton Kuper of Dalhart; his grandchildren, George II, Kuper, and Taylen; and his sisters, Carla Stampfli and Jeanine Hood and husband, Tom. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will remember him with love and his steady presence.
