J. Edgar Craighead Jr

J. Edgar Craighead Jr, at the age of 81, passed away on July 5, 2024. He was a beloved member of the Dalhart community. Born on December 12, 1942, to J. E. Craighead, Sr. and Esther Walker Craighead in Fort Worth, Texas, Ed spent his life spreading joy and kindness to all who knew him.

A dedicated family man, he married Kay Smith in 1970 and was blessed with two sons, Jay Ryan and Scott Andrew. Throughout his life, Ed excelled academically, graduating with an Engineering Degree from Texas Tech University in 1966 before going on to Law School, where he graduated in the pioneering class of 1970. Known for his competitive spirit, Ed was also an accomplished distance runner, participating in races across Texas, the United States, and even Europe.

Ed's passion for running echoed his approach to life - with determination, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Although no longer with us, his spirit and vitality will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating Ed's remarkable life will be held at St. James Anglican Church on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Father Ray officiating. Following the service, friends and loved ones will gather to share stories, comfort one another, and pay tribute to a man who touched so many lives. Arrangements are entrusted to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Survived by his sons, Jay of Amarillo, Scott and Tara of Albuquerque, as well as his four cherished grandchildren, Ellery, Leyton, Hartley, and Finnley, Ed's memory will forever be etched in the fabric of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
