Edward “Eddy” Houston Carson, 81, was born September 20, 1943, in Amherst, TX to parents Herschell and Lucille Carson and passed away on January 23, 2025, in Dalhart, TX.
Eddy was the youngest of five children and grew up on a farm in Olton, TX built on hard work and love. He graduated from Olton High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn later that same year. Eddy then attended West Texas State University. He soon began his lifelong career of farming by leasing land near Dimmit, TX. He relocated his young family to Dalhart in 1967, where he rented farmland from his Father-in-Law (Owen Jones). He purchased the adjoining land a few years later. Over the years, he grew his farming operation while expanding into new ventures with son Kirk (Carson Engine and Napa Auto Parts) capitalizing on his ability to dream and fix almost anything. In 2008, he “retired” but typical of Eddy, rarely missed days of being on the farm or in the shop doing what he loved.
He served the community in many capacities including the Co-op Board, XIT Rangers, Dalhart Country Club Board and FHA board. He was recently awarded Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce’s Ag Person of the Year. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Dalhart where he and Marilyn served and worshiped.
Eddy believed in working hard and playing hard. He had many hobbies including riding dirt bikes, taking cross country treks on his Honda Goldwing, hunting, fishing, customizing fast cars and flying airplanes. He also loved golfing and traveling the country in his RV with the love of his life, Marilyn. He enjoyed a good domino game at the Ambassador Club which he somehow always managed to attend even when feeling rough. He rarely missed a chance to tell a good story or participate in an elaborate prank.
Above all else, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his wife and his family. He will be deeply missed but we know he has been made whole in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Jones Carson, son Kirk Carson (wife Kelly) of Dalhart, TX, daughter Jill Davis (husband Jeff) of Prosper, TX, sisters Alene Allcorn and Fern Gunter, brother Harlan Carson (wife Cheryl), grandchildren Kayla Beecher (husband Josh), Kress Carson (wife Melinda), Lindsay Behrent, Brady Behrent (wife Kelsey), Mark Allison (wife Angie), Connor Allison, Carson Allison, Ross Allison, Emily Bowles (husband Riley), Aaron Davis, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Herschell, mother Lucille and brother Wayne Carson.
A visitation will be held Monday, January 27th from 1:30 to 2:30 followed by funeral services at 3 pm at First Baptist Church in Dalhart.
